Cone Beam Technology

An i-CAT is a new Cone Beam Volumetric Tomography system. It is new technology that is currently exclusive to only 50 clinics/hospitals in the country! We are proud to be able to offer you this invaluable technology, right here in our facility. Dr. Lindemoen is the only doctor in the Tri-State area to be able to own this advanced scanner. It is invaluable in imaging and diagnosis of the jaws, teeth, sinuses and other facial structures. Below are some frequently asked questions regarding this amazing new technology:

What exactly is an i-CAT and how is it different from other CT scans?
An i-CAT is comparable to a full CT scan, like the ones you would get in a hospital, but is volumetric (meaning only one scan). This means on exact image of what we need without the extra radiation of a traditional CT. In fact, this imaging has less radiation to you, the patient, than a typical panogram X-ray that you get in your dental office.

What is the i-CAT used for?
The i-CAT will show us precise high-resolution cross sectional images of any desired location in the upper or lower jaws. It can easily visualize the mandibular nerve for third molars so there is less of a change of permanent nerve deficit following difficult surgical removal. The i-CAT can view the TM joints to help diagnose dysfunction and aid in treatment recommendations. We can also see the sinuses and detect fractures or abnormalities in the facial structures, including bony cysts and tumors.

I am preparing for dental implants. Why does the doctor need an i-CAT before we start?
Each patient’s jaws are different, as is each patient’s individualized treatment needs. The i-CAT is phenomenal for visualizing bone density and nerve location prior to placing implants. If we are wondering if a patient is a candidate for dental implants, the i-CAT will let the doctor visualize the area to decide exactly where the best location for each implant would be. Imagine being able to visualize the bone before we even go into surgery…that is what an i-CAT can do for the doctor.

What is the cost?
Another great feature of the i-CAT is that it will save you money. The i-CAT scan is an image that covers both the upper and lower jaws and surrounding structures. Without this imaging technology right here in our office, we would have to make an appointment for you at an imaging center for a CT scan. The cost of that scan is twice as much for only one jaw. When we need to see both jaws and/or surrounding structures, it would cost four times as much as the i-CAT! Not only that, you would need to make another appointment with us, after the scan, to review the findings. We can save you hundreds of dollars and two more appointments.

Will insurance cover the cost?
Each insurance policy is different. We never know which policies cover your treatment and which do not. We ask that you pay for the scan on the day of service, and we will file your insurance for you and do whatever we can do help receive payment on your scan.

Dr. Lindemoen has always been on the cutting edge of advanced technology and procedures in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Along with the Simplant treatment planning software, we are able to provide you with diagnosis and treatment planning that is exclusive to this area.
